Vegeta, the prince of all Saiyans, often played the second role in the Dragon Ball saga, at the expense of the beloved Goku. It’s a shame, because the genocidal villain/space pirate turned hero (or anti-hero) has as many fans, if not more, than the fool (and terrible father) who claims the main character role. While Vegeta has apparently never been able to defeat his eternal rival in terms of raw power, he has never given up and has never forgotten who he is and where he comes from. 👑
So we thought it was high time to sing the praises of this Saiyan royalty, working hard through the episodes while prioritizing its myriad transformations that push the limits. We chose the Dragon Ball Z, Super and a few movies to complete our list, and we also included the mergers since, technically, Vegeta benefited from them for a good part of the series. 🎥
Vegeta, in her relentless quest to outwit Goku, has therefore gone through many stages throughout the saga, so let’s discover without further delay all the Vegeta Forms, from the most embarrassing to the one that rivals the gods!
Veku is one of the failed fusion of Goku and Vegeta
The weakest form of Vegeta by far is Veku. In Film 12: The Resurrection of the Fusion, Goku and Vegeta find themselves facing the evil Janemba, a purely evil entity born from the malice extracted from souls on their way to hell in the afterlife. After Janemba fights against Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 form, our heroes decide that the only way to defeat this demonic enemy is through fusion. 💥
After swallowing her pride, Vegeta allows herself to participate in the embarrassing dance required to create a hybrid warrior, but fails to perform it with precision, resulting in a botched fusion with astonishing results to say the least… And for good reason! Instead of becoming an extremely powerful warrior, Goku and Vegeta become Veku, a chubby abomination who can barely stand upright. 🐽
To top it all off, it occasionally releases gases that even the noseless Janemba finds nauseating. Having said that, we must give credit where credit is due, and we are impressed by Veku’s dependence and his ability to strike the dreaded Janemba – a blow that did nothing, yes, but a blow nonetheless.
13. VEGETA GREAT APE
When a Tail-tailed Saiyan is exposed to the moon, its body undergoes an enormous form where it increases considerably in size and, exactly as its name indicates, it transforms itself into a violent Great Ape, a form more commonly called Oozaru whose power is multiplied tenfold. To achieve this, the Saiyans only have to look at the full moon or, if there is no full moon, to create an artificial one to reflect the necessary radiation.
For ordinary Saiyans, such as Goku, Gohan and Bardock, turning into a great ape means sacrificing their autonomy and clarity of mind, much like Bruce Banner when he turns into the Hulk. 🟢 In these destructive forms, the gargantuan Saiyans wreaked uncontrolled havoc, destroying everything in sight until the form was complete. However, for an elite like Vegeta, this form did not mean losing self-control, for he remained fully conscious in this state, retaining many of the capabilities of his human form, making him all the more dangerous. 💥
12. VEGETA SUPER SAIYAN
For most of the Namek and Freezer sagas, Vegeta was on a quest to become the “Legendary Super Saiyan“, a form obtained only once, centuries ago, by a long dead Saiyan who could barely contain his extreme power, even destroying the planet on which he had obtained it. Vegeta will end up believing that he has acquired this overwhelming strength, but will soon discover that he is not even close to it and, to add insult to injury, it will be his hated rival, Goku, who will be the first to achieve this form in a millennium. ⏳
But that won’t stop Vegeta, who will eventually get the shape of Super Saiyan. In this form, Vegeta is immensely powerful, perhaps even more powerful than Goku. For a very long time in Dragon Ball Z, it seemed that the Super Saiyan form, also called SSJ form, was the ultimate achievement, and Vegeta’s prowess with this form had kept that promise. Alas, it is so far down in our list because new forms will appear later in the saga.
11. SUPER VEGETA
During the Cell saga, Vegeta and Trunks took part in a long training session in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to push the limits of their Super Saiyan forms in the hope of crushing the Cells Juniors. Their training paid off and both were able to create an impressive new form. Although it was not completely transcended, it did push the concept of the original Super Saiyan to new frontiers. 🛣
Nicknamed “Ascended Saiyan” or “Super Vegeta“, our favourite prince forces the power of the Super Saiyan to increase his muscle mass exponentially, giving him the physique of a bodybuilt giant. His hair becomes slightly paler, more bristly and his power is at least three times greater than that of a Super Saiyan. 👱♂️
10. VEGETA SUPER SAIYAN 3
This form may shock many of you. By the way, one of the biggest jokes of Dragon Ball fans is that Vegetas is so far behind Goku that he should skip steps such as Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan 3 forms in order to keep the rhythm. Although this is generally true (and quite funny, we admit it), Vegeta managed to get the Super Saiyan 3 form under unusual conditions. We keep him at the bottom of the list because of his lack of canonicity and his relationship with the main franchise.
Vegeta’s SSJ3 form made its debut in the Japan-only arcade fighting game Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Battlers. But more recently, this form (and its multiple variations) has become a star card in the popular mobile game, Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle. It is indeed in this game, a mix of board games, card collecting and puzzle games coupled with an RPG, that this form of Prince Saiyan is most often represented. 🃏
9. VEGETA GOD FORM
Dragon Ball Super has been through a lot of trouble. Much of the series was full of incoherent characters and horrible animations, while the stories unfolded at a snail’s pace. Thankfully, these concerns have been rectified, but there was still one major problem: the absurd scaling of power. At the end of Dragon Ball Z, it became hard to believe that the characters could become stronger than they already were and that villains could stand up to them. ⚔
Barely after digesting the Buu saga, Super asks us to believe that a pink-haired Goku is somehow capable of attacking a god and that Freezer, after training for several months, could rival this same power. So what does this have to do with the form “Saiyan like a god”? 😇
In short, this form allows Vegeta to exploit its advantages without fully activating the divine Ki that triggers its Super Saiyan Blue form. So why is such immense power so low on the list? It’s simple: it’s difficult to measure what this form is capable of, although it is certainly powerful, it has barely proven itself compared to the other forms in the list below. 📜
8. VEGETA SUPER SAIYAN 2
Unlike the “Ascended Saiyan” form, the Super Saiyan 2 not only pushes the limits of what the Super Saiyan is all about. Rather, it is a unique and much more effective form pioneered by Gohan. Surpassed by Kakarot and now by his son, Vegeta has therefore devoted himself to an even more extreme and intense training in order to reach the true second level of the Super Saiyan lineage. 💪
Sign of a lean physique, longer and more bristly hair, and then a flash of lightning from the yellow aura (the mark of a Super Saiyan form), Vegeta’s speed and power increased exponentially. In DBS, enraged by the fact that Beerus has slapped his beloved Bulma, Vegeta explodes into a raging SSJ2. The potential of SSJ2, at this point, surpasses anything on the list so far.
7. MAJIN VEGETA
Vegeta may be the fans’ favourite anti-hero these days, but when he made his debut in Dragon Ball Z, he was anything but. As a ruthless mercenary, Vegeta is responsible for the extinction of countless civilizations and trillions of lives. 🌍 With Earth as his next target, he was fortunately stopped by Goku and his crew, and after the sagas Namek and Freezer, he abandoned his bad habits and reluctantly joined the good guys. This doesn’t mean that the evil in his heart has disappeared, however, and Babidi took advantage of this to cast a spell on Vegeta, transforming him into his Majin form, or Demon Prince.
This is essentially the Super Saiyan 2 form on steroids, with Vegeta’s latent evil mixed with Babidi’s spell causing her to unlock and release her potential. In addition to the dramatic improvement in her natural strength, Vegeta is now able to harness supernatural powers, such as incredible survival skills, like surviving severe injuries, healing and regeneration. He also has an unlimited supply of endurance.
And then there’s his final explosion. When Vegeta was finally able to realize that the evil in him had once again taken over, he determined that the best way for him to atone for his sins was to sacrifice himself and (hopefully) take Buu with him. The final explosion was an absolutely incredible burst of energy from the depths of Vegeta that destroyed him and part of Buu.
6. VEGITO CANDY
As we all know, Vegito is the fused form of Goku and Vegeta when they wear the sacred earrings of the Old Kai (the Potara). This form is extremely powerful but it is not the one we want to talk about now. No, we’re going to focus on the time when Vegito was turned into candy. 🍬
Majin Buu’s most unique trait, apart from his chewing gum-like appearance, is his ability to turn his opponents into chocolate or candy. When he attacked Vegito, he too was transformed into a candy. However, what Buu failed to realize was that it was the “strongest candy in the world”, proof of Vegito’s immense power. Being literally a consumable did little to diminish the overwhelming potential in him, and Buu soon learned this at his own expense.
So the pink monster found himself surpassed by the Vegito candy, which embarrassed the villain at every turn. The beating became so despicable and humiliating that Buu found himself forced to reverse the candy beam to make it all stop. A strange episode, to say the least! 😜
When Vegito was turned into candy by Majin Buu, he still managed to beat him. The situation became so bad that Buu had to reverse the form to escape the wrath of this belligerent candy. If Buu, the most powerful villain in Dragon Ball Z, could be ridiculed by a candy, then you can imagine how powerful that candy would be in its true form. 🍬
Using the Potara earrings, Goku and Vegeta have merged to form the ultra powerful Vegito. Unlike the form that the two create with the fusion dance, the Vegito form has no time limit. The most intriguing element of the basic Vegito form is that it already seems superior to Super Buu. Even when testing his new body, he managed to dominate such a powerful villain. 🔥
The resurrection of the Fusion, a demonic entity takes control of the Other World, changing the laws of life and death. Goku and Vegeta must team up to defeat this overpowering enemy but can do nothing against this monster. Risking everything for the sake of everything, the two attempted a fusion dance… which was failed because of Vegeta. They transformed into Veku (form to the 1st place in our ranking). 🤔
When the two finally did the dance correctly, they created Gogeta, a force the opposite of Veku, which proved to be almost the strongest form that Prince Saiyan ever took. Endowed with brutal power and speed that cannot even be calculated, Gogeta is the work of Janemba who, just a few moments ago, had beaten Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 form. 💥
Gogeta’s latest move, the Stardust Breaker, is just as effective and powerful as the man who wields it, he transformed Janemba into stardust, as if he had never existed. Gogeta’s power is easily one of Vegeta’s most powerful forms, a fact he certainly loves, but probably hates to admit as he will only be able to achieve this form by doing a dance with Son Goku exclusively. 🕺
3. VEGETA SUPER SAIYAN BLUE
When Goku literally rose to the rank of god (even if only temporarily) during the battle of the gods, it was a real moment of shame for Vegeta. After having sacrificed his pride by singing and dancing to the abominable bingo song, he was forced to watch his rival reach a level of power on a divine scale. So why Kakarot? Why him and not the prince of all Saiyans? 🤔
After that moment, Vegeta devoted herself to training with Whis and was able to unlock the ability to dive into the divine ki. Although we never saw him become the pink-haired Super Saiyan God that Goku became, we saw him become Super Saiyan Blue. In this state, Vegeta could easily compete against any of the previous forms on this list, even against Super Vegito. 💥
Most opponents (other than supremely powerful entities and/or immortal beings) collapse after a few blows, so its power is unquestionable, but it has a fatal flaw: it is the use of power. Maintaining the Super Saiyan Blue’s form is a huge drain on the user’s stamina. It can perform incredible attacks and extreme power demonstrations, but it can only be used sparingly, for fear of being drained and vulnerable. 😫
2. VEGITO SUPER SAIYAN BLUE
In the saga of Future Trunks in Dragon Ball Super, the timeline, constantly in danger, is again under attack. But not by androids, bio-mechanical monsters, or even Majin Buu. This time, it is the gods themselves who strike mankind. The corrupt Supreme Kai, Zamasu, and a Zamasu from another universe who stole Goku’s body, decide that the mortals must be eliminated. They almost succeed on Earth, easily defeating Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks of the future, especially after the two gods have merged into one.
Fortunately, Goku and Vegeta are also divine, and they too have merged. Going far beyond “Super Vegito“, they activated their divine ki and became Super Saiyan Blue (also known as Vegito Blue), thus easily becoming the most powerful mortal in their universe (and probably in many others). So why is this seemingly perfect form only ranked second?
1. SUPER SAIYAN GOD SUPER SAIYAN EVOLVED
So what is it that makes Super Saiyan God SS Evolved, the form that Vegetas take when they destroy and break their limits, superior to Super Saiyan Blue Vegeto? Apart from the fact that it does not have the weaknesses of this form, the Super Saiyan Blue Evolved is the perfect amalgam of what Vegeta, the prince of all Saiyans, is. 👑 It is finally a level that only he has reached, it is his own form.
Taking everything that defined him, such as his pain, his Saiyan identity, his dynamism, his rivalry with Goku and, above all, his pride, Vegeta rises beyond the Super Saiyan Blue to become a person of absolutely unique. He is incredibly powerful and has done something that even Goku didn’t: he defeated a god.
When Toppo made his choice to become a God of Destruction, he was imbued with the energy of destruction, soaring his power to a level that probably rivals that of Beerus. Although he was certainly not a master of this new form and was forbidden to destroy his opponents, he was still a God of Destruction in the true sense of the word. Yet Veta opposed him. Not only did Vegeta oppose Toppo, but his evolved form surpassed that of the destroyer. We hope that Beerus has been paying attention because if Vegeta’s new form can destroy one of Beerus’ brethren, one can only wonder if he will be next.
